Battling Exercise Boredom
Exercising can be an utter bore, just like mopping the floor, vacuuming, or watching Daredevil on repeat (Sorry Ben, not your best work).
Even as a fitness professional and someone who thoroughly enjoys exercising I’ll admit I too get bored exercising which is why when a member at the gym asked me a few weeks ago to do the Men’s Health Urbanathlon in Chicago, October 18th of this year, I said yes.
I’ll admit, I’ve never done anything like this before.
I’m much more inclined to run some hill sprints (pun intended hehe) than to go out and run 10 miles with 14 obstacles (The course for the Urbanathlon race looks friggin’ sweet I must add). But hey, why not try something different? Why not switch things up and attempt a new challenge to keep things interesting?
Are you getting bored with exercise?
Signing up for an event and giving yourself a reason to exercise can be exactly what you need. The best part? You have plenty of options to choose from and you don’t have to do them alone!
If you want to join me and the team I’ll be completing the Urbanathlon with in Chicago then register online and we’ll see you there!
Looking for a different obstacle race? Then check out some of the upcoming races from the list below (These are the ones close to my fellow Wisconsinites, but they have many locations):
- Warrior Dash Saturday, August 2nd 2014 in Johnson Creek, Wisconsin
- Tough Mudder September 6 & 7, 2014 in Plymouth, Wisconsin
- Spartan Race September 27, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois
Sure, these races won’t be for everyone, but the main point is to give yourself another reason to exercise, you know, besides all the super awesome health benefits 🙂
Get out there and challenge yourself, do something different, and have one helluva time in the process.
P.S. I’m not at all a distance runner (The longest continuous run I’ve ever done in my life is about 3 miles) and so I’ll definitely be looking for some running partners to help improve upon my abysmal running endurance. Contact me if you want to go for a little run sometime!
