Day 36: 100 Days Without Sweets (My New Morning Routine)
How good it felt to have a “normal” day again yesterday!
I love holidays, hanging out with friends, and going to festivals, but those took a tole on my sleep, nutrition, and exercise the past week.
Yesterday I tried out a new morning routine to get me back on track.
After a great night of sleep (I hadn’t slept well at all the last week) I took a few minutes to think about what I was grateful for in my life that day. Then, I went for a 35 minute bike ride, ate a healthy breakfast, and read a few pages in one of my books.
I felt refreshed and had tremendous mental clarity.
My entire day reflected how I felt right away in the morning and my eating was much better because of it.
Here’s how the day of eating went:
- 7:15 a.m. 4 Eggs, Havarti Cheese, Broccoli
- 1:30 p.m. 1 Cheeseburger, Potato Salad, Banana
- 6:15 p.m. Chicken Breast, Sugar Snap Peas, Cashews
Overall, it was one of my healthiest days of eating in a couple of weeks. I attribute this to the great night of sleep I had and morning exercise which allowed me to make conscious choices about how and what I ate.
Even though for lunch I had a cheeseburger (leftover from the holiday weekend), I controlled my portions for the entire meal by slowing down to become aware of how full I really was.
I needed this day.
It’s amazing how one bad day of nutrition can turn into two, three, four, or even more. This is the trap many of us fall into.
Getting back on course after a bad day of eating is critical. I’ve had my share of struggles with this, but it’s something I continue to work on.
Today, I did the same morning routine as day 36 and I’m feeling good!
