Not a Pretty Girl
Each week I review articles in four categories: fat loss, nutrition, strength training and health and wellness, giving you the Just Go Tips from each article to save you time and help you take action.
Not a Pretty Girl by Kelly Coffey
Kelly Coffey was “Morbidly obese from early childhood into my 20s” but has since made fitness a way of life, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
In this article of hers she shares the story of a photo shoot she was a part of and the thoughts involved with being a thin and pretty girl. It’s an easy read and provides powerful insights.

Just Go Tips
- Treat yourself better. The choices you make every day determine where you’re at in life. The more frequently you treat yourself well – exercising, eating nutritious food, getting plenty of sleep, drinking lots of water – the healthier and happier you’ll be. Treating yourself well is not just about losing weight or shedding body fat, it’s about doing things that enhance your quality of life.
- Realize that being thin and pretty doesn’t make you happy. This applies to gentlemen who want to be ripped as well. Getting thin or ripped doesn’t instantly make you happy, but the healthy habits you establish and the improved self-worth you develop will.

One of the most powerful parts of the article was this:
Wouldn’t you know it, a year later I was thin and pretty and…hold for it…still unhappy, still living from binge to binge, and still going nowhere – fast.
Go figure. Kelly had arrived at the weight she wanted and she still wasn’t happy – this happens far too frequently in people’s lives.
We always assume the grass is greener on the other side, but we never grow to appreciate where we are at or realize the things that actually matter.
I want people to live healthy lives and yes, maintaining a healthy weight is part of that, but if you can’t be happy with all you are blessed with now, why will you be happier later?
I am constantly reminding myself of this exact thing.
As you strive to achieve more in your life, never lose sight of what you already have or how far you have already come.
What should you do next? Just go!
Choose something you can apply to your life and take action. What have you got to lose?
