Skipping Breakfast: Will It Really Make You Fat? by Helen Kollias
We’ve all heard that you should eat breakfast every morning, but will skipping breakfast really make you fat?
Once again the team at Precision Nutrition did a great job answering that question and digging deeper into the research behind this supposed most important meal of the day.
The biggest takeaway from the article?
There has never been a properly randomized (causal) study that “proves” the positive effects of breakfast!

Just Go Tips
- Observe how you feel eating breakfast. How do you feel throughout the day when you eat breakfast vs. when you don’t eat breakfast. Take inventory on how your eating the rest of your is affected by your breakfast or lack of breakfast.
- Try different options for breakfast. This goes back to tip number one, but see how you feel with different breakfast options. Is your day better if you have oatmeal in the morning or eggs? Start to notice how you feel and how your energy throughout the day is influenced by different types of breakfast.
- Realize everybody is different, but similar rules still apply. Whether you decided to eat breakfast or not is your choice, but it is still in your best interest to eat nutrient-dense, minimally processed foods and be mindful of how you feel while you eat to avoid overeating.
In the article Helen goes deep into the interpretation of the current research available in regards to eating breakfast and does a great job explaining her thoughts in the article.
Contrary to popular belief, just because you skip breakfast doesn’t mean you are going to get fat – there are many factors involved with body composition and breakfast is simply one of them.
I think it is important with anything to understand the why behind it.
Too often we live on autopilot, acting a certain way just because people before us did, but it’s important to look at things with a discerning eye.
Be skeptical, find out what works for you and don’t believe things just because someone says so.
Remember, what works for one person won’t necessarily work for you.
What should you do next? Just go!
Choose something you can apply to your life and take action. What have you got to lose?
